Super is one of the biggest payments you make each payday. pay.com.au lets you pay your clearing house directly through the platform, earn PayRewards Points on every contribution, and keep flexibility on cashflow with credit card payment options. Here’s everything you need to know.

    What is Payday Super?

Payday Super is a legislative change requiring all Australian employers to pay superannuation contributions to employees within 7 business days of each payday, starting 1 July 2026, unless an extended due date exception applies.

Up until now, employers have been allowed to pay super quarterly, as long as contributions were made within 28 days of the end of each quarter. That window is going away.

On the same date, the ATO’s free Small Business Superannuation Clearing House (SBSCH) closes permanently. If you currently use it, you’ll need a replacement clearing house in place before 1 July 2026.

For the full details, visit the ATO website.

    Why pay super through pay.com.au?

Super is one of the biggest payments you make each payday. pay.com.au lets you turn a compliance obligation into a reward. Every super payment earns PayRewards Points, the same as payroll, BAS, supplier invoices, and every other business expense you process through the platform. The more you pay through pay.com.au, the more you earn.

    Great for cashflow

Moving from quarterly to per-payday super is the biggest practical shift for most businesses. Under the old rules, super could sit in your account for up to three months before it was due. Under Payday Super, it needs to move within 7 business days of every payday.

Paying by credit card through pay.com.au gives you flexibility on when the money actually leaves your account. You can also stack credit card points on top of PayRewards Points, maximising the return on a payment you’re making anyway.

Earn PayRewards Points on every contribution

Every super payment made through pay.com.au earns PayRewards Points at your chosen earn rate. Points accumulate the same way they do across all payment types on the platform. Redeem them for flights, gift cards, cashback, and more through the PayRewards program.

For example: paying $30,000 per month in business expenses through pay.com.au earns approximately 720,000 PayRewards Points per year at 2 pts per $1 (at 1.8% processing fee, excl. GST). That’s enough to redeem a return business class flight from Melbourne to Paris with KrisFlyer Miles. Super payments count toward that total.

    Flexible payment methods

pay.com.au supports multiple payment methods for super contributions:

    • Credit card (Visa, Mastercard, or Amex) for cashflow flexibility and card points stacking
    • PayID for same-day settlement when speed matters
    • BSB and account number for standard bank transfer

One platform for all your business payments

Super, payroll, BAS, suppliers, and other business expenses can all be paid through pay.com.au. One login, one rewards balance, every payday working harder for you. Consolidating payments through the platform means every dollar you spend earns, rather than just the ones you remember to route through.

Fees are consistent with your pay.com.au subscription and are typically tax-deductible for businesses. See the pricing page for details.

    Getting set up (one-time)

You only need to do this once.

Step 1: Choose a clearing house

If you don’t have a clearing house yet, choose one from the ATO’s list of certified Super Clearing Houses. See the full list at the end of this guide.

Step 2: Add your clearing house as a payee

In pay.com.au, add your clearing house as a supplier payee using the details they’ve issued you:

    • ABN
    • BPAY biller code or bank account details
    • Any standing reference details

    Each payday: making the payment

Once set up, here’s your flow each payday.

    1. Prepare your contributionsWork out your contributions in your payroll system or clearing house portal. Your clearing house will generate a unique Payment Reference Number (PRN) for that run. You’ll need this in the next step.
    2. Make the payment in pay.com.au1. Go to Make a Payment > Superannuation in the sidebar.
      2. Select your clearing house as the payee.
      3. Enter the amount and PRN from your clearing house.
      4. Choose your payment method: bank transfer, Visa, Mastercard, Amex, or PayID.
      5. Choose your PayRewards earn rate.
      6. Review and authorise.

Done. pay.com.au settles with your clearing house, which distributes payments to your employees’ nominated super funds. Points earned.

    Using Xero?

Xero doesn’t support a direct Payday Super integration with pay.com.au, but you can use your existing Xero payroll data to prepare your contribution figures. It’s a one-time setup, then a quick flow each payday: pull your super report from Xero, submit the figures to your clearing house to receive your PRN, then process the payment in pay.com.au.

Read the full Xero and pay.com.au super guide in the Help Centre.

    Accepted payment methods

    • BSB and account number
    • Visa / Mastercard
    • Amex
    • PayID (recommended for same-day settlement)

Your responsibility: It is your responsibility to ensure the payment is processed with enough lead time to meet the 7-business-day requirement. See payment processing timelines and cut-off times for more information.

Platform fees depend on your payment method, rewards preference, and subscription tier. See the pricing page for details.

Paying super to a Self Managed Super Fund (SMSF)

If you’re paying super directly to an SMSF rather than through a clearing house, use the Payroll payment flow instead. Add the SMSF as a Payroll payee using the details provided by your employee, then go to Make a Payment > Payroll.

Important: Payments to an SMSF owned by an individual or entity associated with the cardholder are classified as Related Entities, which is a prohibited payment type on pay.com.au. These payments can be made by selecting a bank account as your payment method. See the Payment Rules and Regulations page for more information.
